Last year's hike on the backs of

We are leaving from Mařenka - the home of young talents of the sports academy. Pól prepares them for a star career in freestyle snowboarding in local snow parks. You can see a small montage of pieces on jumps and rails (not only of his wards). here.

The Ridges and their snowy plains rise before us. We walk just a short distance along the road to the beginning of the forest path. When we start putting on the belts, a green man appears. He asks where we are headed, draws a map in the snow with his finger and explains how to avoid the wilderness. We agree with him that scaring animals while fighting a harsh winter, where every joule is good, would be a bare head of lice. We approach the nature reserve and with it the entire Hřbety along a well-maintained path. After that, we climb for a while through dense forest and before long we are on the plains below the ridge.

On the ridge we meet a unit of soldiers in winter coats. From a distance they look like navels, but up close you can see a full field + automatic rifle on the belly for a total of approx. 30 kg. The weather is kind to them and to us, so we greet each other in a friendly way, the professional buffs pass us with a smile and quickly disappear around the bend. A group of ski alpinists bursting with hormones or stupidity arrives on the ridge in no time. One tentatively falls into the overdraft, then without beeping they slide down a steep, probably avalanche-like slope to the opposite side. We take several arcs of luxurious descent before entering the forest on a steep slope. Soon we are in the drifts at the lower stream. We fasten our seatbelts, cross the stream on a snow bridge, and soon we are back on Mařenka. The successful event ended with a beer and a late lunch in the limelight. Such is the splitboard comfort in the Czech mountains.
